From MOONLIGHT MADNESS:
Rance broke the kiss first. She heard his
breathing, even but deep in the blackened room. Her
eyes strained to adjust. There was just enough
moonlight coming through his window for her to make
out his silhouette and gradually more. Rance’s white
shirtsleeves appeared as he removed his cloak. Then
she caught the whites of his eyes and finally the
shimmer of moonbeams on his skin as he faced her.
“Harpy,” he murmured. His hand clamped her
shoulder and glided down her arm to catch her hand.
“You need not be here. Nor I. I should not linger with
thee. Tell me to leave. I should go. Now.”
She heard the indecision in his voice. The selfloathing.
The denial.
Her anger vanished with each beat of his pulse
against the palm of her hand.
“Please don’t go.” Not without her, she’d meant to
add, but she let the end of her request die unspoken. If
she could offer him a reason to take her to London, she
would gladly do so.
